What You’re Craving More (and Less) Of During Your Fertility Journey
You might be in the thick of family building right now. You’ve likely been given all sorts of suggestions and recommendations like “stay positive”, “just relax” or “have you tried?” I work with women navigating fertility challenges, so I have a good understanding of what you’re craving more (and less) of during your fertility journey. I’ve spent countless hours talking with clients about the emotional pain that’s created by well-intentioned comments from friends and family. Most people are probably not asking you about what you actually need right now. And that’s unfortunate.
Whether you’ve been trying to conceive for several months or several years, the emotional toll of infertility is heavy. You’re quietly drowning. You’ve done everything right. The research, the appointments, the treatments, the tracking. And yet the emotional toll just keeps compounding. The anxiety. The shame. The grief that no one seems to understand. So much of your life is impacted by this journey and many of the struggles are invisible and grossly misunderstood.
If you’ve ever felt like you’re carrying too much and no one quite gets it, I created this list is for you.
What You’re Craving More (and Less) Of During Your Fertility Journey
You Want MORE …
1. Peace of Mind
You’re tired of feeling like your brain never turns off. So much of your thoughts are filtered through the fertility lens. On the contrary, you crave quiet not just in your environment, but in your mind.
2. Emotional Clarity
Right now, everything feels muddy. You want to feel grounded in your decisions again so that you’re not second-guessing every next step.
3. Confidence in Yourself
You want to believe in your body, your emotions, your ability to handle what comes next. Most importantly, you miss trusting yourself.
4. Relief from Shame
The shame is relentless. You have shame about your timeline, your reactions, your body, your story. In fact, you want to release the shame and feel the freedom that comes from no longer carrying the weight of it.
5. Space to Feel Fully Human
Not “strong” or “positive” all the time. Just human. Without reservation, you want to be able to show up exactly as you are and know that’s enough.
6. Connection with Yourself and Others
Whether it’s with your partner, your body, or your sense of purpose. You’re longing to feel in tune again.
7. Boundaries That Protect Your Energy
You want to say “no” without guilt and step back from draining conversations so that you can prioritize your emotional health.
8. A Safe Space to Be Held
You don’t need more advice. You need to feel seen. You want space to grieve, process, and breathe.
9. Emotional Tools That Actually Work
You’re done with vague advice. You want something evidence-based that helps you regulate when you’re overwhelmed or triggered.
10. Hope
Not toxic positivity or fake optimism. Just the real, quiet belief that you can find joy, no matter the outcome.
You Want LESS …
1. Constant Anxiety
Your nervous system is fried. You’re over the spirals, the hypervigilance, the panicky anticipation of bad news.
2. Self-Blame
You want to put the self-blame down and start offering yourself compassion instead.
3. Emotional Rollercoasters
Hope. Crash. Repeat. As a matter of fact, you want to get off the rollercoaster.
4. Unsolicited Advice
No more “just relax” or “have you tried…?” You want less noise, more nuance.
5. Pressure to Stay Positive
You’ve learned that being positive doesn’t protect you from pain. You want permission to feel the whole range of emotions.
You also Want LESS …
6. Comparing Yourself to Everyone Else
You want freedom from the pain of comparison that comes with scrolling social media or attending baby showers that leave you shattered.
7. Relationship Strain
You miss feeling like you and your partner are a team. You want less tension, more connection.
8. Burnout
You’re tired of tracking, injecting, waiting, hoping. You want relief, even if the outcome hasn’t changed yet.
9. Feeling Alone in Your Pain
You want to stop hiding how hard this really is. You want less isolation, more understanding.
10. Pretending You’re Fine
You’re done being “the strong one.” You want less masking and more authenticity.
The truth is you deserve both. You deserve to have more of what you desperately want and less of what actually serves you. Wanting more peace, connection, and clarity doesn’t make you weak. Wanting less anxiety, shame, and emotional exhaustion doesn’t make you broken.
